The Other Boleyn Girl: Book to Movie

Okay so I just read "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Greggory. Then I saw the movie. To me the book was so much better then the movie. The book had all the facts right, the movie didn't. The movie was nothing like the book, unfourtuanly. I thought that the book would make a great movie, the director even said that he just used Greggory's book as a "rough draft". Too bad.

The book is about Mary Boleyn, in her perspective of the fall of Henry VIII's first wife, Cathrine of Aragon, the rise of her sister Anne, and the fall of her sister Anne. You probably know this Anne as Anne Bolyen, the girl who pushed Cathrine off the throne and then got beheaded after. This story shows so much detail about Anne and Mary. Mary Boleyn was the King's mistress before Anne. Mary is most known for being the mistress of two Kings, one in France, one in England. The book didn't say that though. It portrayed Mary as little and innocent. The book also had George, the less famous Boleyn sibling. George is Mary and Anne's brother. In the end of the book he gets beheaded too, along with his friends, like Francis Weston, and Anne Boleyn. The book shows how a King like Henry VIII can go from a perfect King to an evil dictator. Henry wanted a son so bad, that he divorced his first wife, then killed the second. Mary, the 'other boleyn girl' has a son and daughter, as the King's mistress. Then she later marries to William Stafford, who is way under her class. She marries for love. She is the only Boleyn that does not die in the end.

The movie is so different. In the movie Mary's mother loves her children, in the book she doesn't care about them at all. William Stafford is barley mentioned in the movie, but is a huge part in the book. George and Anne try to comite incest in the movie, which is not mentioned, but highly hinted on in the book. George is not gay in the movie, but comes out in the book. Mary only has a son in the movie, but she has a daughter too. See there are many things I wish the director put in.

If you read the book, see the movie. If you saw the movie, read the book. If you have done both of those, comment. Tell me what you thought of the movie and book.
