Edward VI the Boy King

Edward VI of England became king at just the age of nine. His father King Henry VIII died and his only male heir was Edward.

Early Life
Edward was born to King Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour. He was raised as a Protestant and was the first king of the Tudors to be brought up like so. He was born on October 12 1537 in Hampton Court Palace. His mother fell ill on October 23, right after his birth. She died the following night. When Edward was four years old he fell sick with quartan fever. After that, he was healthy until the last six months of his life. Edward was placed under the care of Margaret Bryan, who was previously taking care of baby princess Elizabeth.

Later Life, Illness, and Death
Edward became King when he was nine after his father, King Henry VIII died. He was called The Boy King because of his young age. Edward was a strong Protestant because of his Protestant upbringing. Edward became sick in January of 1553. His fever and couf grew worse and worse. He whisperd to his tutor - "I am glad to die." when his legs weaked and he could not resist his sickness. Edward died at the age of fifteen on July 6 1553. The cause of his death was never found out. Many say that the cause was tuberculosis.

Throne after Death
Edward left his throne to Lady Jane Grey, becasue she was a Protestent like himself. Although his father's request was that Edward's half-sister Mary became Queen after his death. Edward didn't want Mary to be Queen because of her belif of the Catholic faith. Jane became Queen Jane after Edward died. Jane was young herself and became the famous Queen for nine days. Mary soon heard of Edward's death and claimed herself Queen. Mary had more suppoters then Jane, so she soon held Jane and her husband in prison, becoming Queen.

Mary I, Bloody Mary or Kind Mary

Mary I was nicknamed 'bloody' Mary in her time, but history shows us that she really wasn't all that bloody. When she first became Queen, she pardoned four prisoners from the Tower of London. She was the first and I think only monarch to do a kind act like that. Sure she burned at least 300 of her own priests at the steak, but she only did that because she thought that was best. I think that all she wanted was a perfect reign for her kingdom, so in her mind she thought that she should kill them. I know that she probably went a little mad for love, since she killed her half cousin to be able to marry King Philip of Spain. Her half cousin was the famous Queen for nine days, Lady Jane Grey.

The Beginning: How The Tudors Came to Be

Most people know the Tudors from King Henry VIII, the king who had six wives. But there is so much more to the Tudors. 

The Tudor Dynasty started with a battle. The last King of the Plantagenet Dynasty was King Richard III, who was King for two years, fought the soon to be King Henry VII. The battle was called Battle of Bosworth Field, which is considered the last battle of the War of the Roses. Fought on 22 August 1485.  The War of the Roses was the battle between the Lancastor and York, two lines of Plantagenet. It was pretty much like two kids fighting for the best toy. It was two sides of a family fighting for the ultimate prize, the throne. King Richard was for York and Henry was for Lancastor. When King Richard died in battle, Henry became King.

When Henry became King, the Plantagenet Dynasty was over, because Henry was not a true Plantagenet. He was a Tudor. 

I think that the whole business of the War of the Roses was just silly. It was an unnecessary battle, that killed more people then it should have. I guess that it was the only way the Tudors could be though. Henry wasn't even next in line for the throne when he was born. But soon everyone else died, so he was the last one left. Henry VII started the Tudor Dynasty by defeating King Richard III in battle.
